Gutters in Knoxville & Knox County

From century-old houses in North Knoxville to big two-story roofs in Farragut and Hardin Valley, Knox County homes need different things from their gutters.

We serve all of Knox County, including downtown and North, South and West Knoxville, Fountain City, Holston Hills, Bearden, Sequoyah Hills, Farragut, Hardin Valley, Karns, Powell, Halls and Corryton.

Older homes in the city

Neighborhoods like Fourth and Gill, Old North Knoxville, Island Home and parts of Fountain City have houses built long before seamless gutters existed. You'll find half-round gutters, built-in box gutters hidden in the cornice, and fascia that's been patched for decades. These need a careful approach: sometimes the right answer is half-round seamless gutters that suit the house rather than standard K-style.

A few of these neighborhoods are historic overlay districts, where exterior changes can need design review. Gutters are often straightforward, but if you're in an overlay it's worth a quick check with Knoxville-Knox County Planning before you change style or material.

Mature trees, heavy leaf load

Sequoyah Hills, Holston Hills, Westmoreland and Fountain City are known for big oaks and tulip poplars. Gutters there fill fast every fall, and poplar seeds in spring get into ordinary screens. These are the neighborhoods where micro-mesh gutter guards earn their keep.

West Knox and Farragut subdivisions

Newer homes in Farragut, Hardin Valley, Karns and Powell often have large, complex roofs with several valleys, and builder-installed 5-inch gutters with 2x3 downspouts. The typical complaint is overflow at inside corners during summer storms. Upgrading the problem runs to 6-inch, or adding 3x4 downspouts, usually fixes it. Many of these subdivisions have HOAs that approve exterior colors, so check yours before choosing a gutter color.

Hills and runoff

South Knoxville and the ridges north of the city put a lot of homes on slopes, with water from the street side flowing toward the house. Getting downspouts discharged downhill — often with a buried drain line — matters as much as the gutters themselves.
